Japanese farmers apply about 5 times as much active ingredient of pesticides per hectare that North America. Japanese consumers need to make up their minds, GMOs or pesticides. GMO rice holds great promise in increasing productivity and reducing the need for pesticides....

Saying that supermarkets make a low margin on produce is like saying that oil companies do not make money at the pumps. For supermarkets produce, such as milk, are loss leaders to get people in through the doors because they make money by selling volume, which leads to waste.
